Baguette
Baguette is a renowned bakery in Quito, Ecuador known for the quality of its bread and service throughout the years. The contemporary French style that characterizes its interior is what drives the lighting design.
The lighting at Baguette creates a sense of movement that guides the customer through an experiential path of the bakery. Its layers of light reveal the architectural elements and interior accessories in an ordered manner so the customer moves through the space attracted by light.
Three basic layers of light were used: ambient light, focal glow and decorative light.
Ambient light was attained through an intricate ceiling design that delivers indirect light in an artistic manner. The entrance greets the customer with a lit coffered ceiling that bathes the space in warm light and engages the customers to enter the store. Inside, the ceiling design organizes the space according to its activity. Indirect light encompasses each space to highlight its architecture. On the second floor, indirect light washes over an 8+ meter ceiling to create ambient light that reveals architecture and leads the eye progressively towards the center dome.
Focal flow or accent lighting was devised through carefully placed spotlights to illuminate the product displays to maximize sales and engage customers with the brand. It as also used to highlight special artistic finishes on walls and furniture.
Decorative light was achieved through simple and contemporary luminaires that hang above tables to harmonize with the design of the space as well as create more intimate scale.
Project designed by ValDesign Lab. It included the lighting design for the Cumbayá store. In addition to the design of ceilings and mounting devices.
